Questions to ask your Surgeon 

  • Will there be long term side effects from my surgery?

  • What is the recovery time, when will I be able to return to work?

  • Will I be able to take care of my family, travel, be around children?


Questions to ask your Oncologist


  • What will happen if I refuse treatment?

  • How large is the tumor?

  • Is it operable? 

  • What type of cancer do I have and what stage?

  • What treatments do you recommend and why?

  • What information are you using to base your recommendation?

  • Can I be healed?

  • Can I continue my daily medication regiment? 

  • Can I drink wine or alcohol during treatment?

  • Will you give me a written electronic plan that summarizes our discussion? My treatment choices and advice for managing treatment and side effects?


General Questions

  • What is covered by insurance?

  • How much will you I have to pay out of pocket?

  • Does my employer have a leave program Disability/ how to sign up for FMLA?

  • Are there programs that will help cover cost of Dr. Visits and surgery?

  • Do you have support for after the surgery/ does your insurance cover for at home? nursing visits/therapy?

  • Do you have someone to take you to follow up appointments?

  • Are there programs that will supply transportation at minimal or no charge?

  • How can I find out if the drug companies will subsidize drug cost?
